2 1/2-quart saucepan
Stirring utensil
- 1/2 cup cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon celery seed
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/8 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon celery salt
- 1 tablespoon salt
In a blender, combine 1 cup of water and 1/8 cup of cornstarch. Blend on high speed for about 1 minute or until the mixture is smooth.
Pour the blended cornstarch mixture into a 2 1/2-quart saucepan.
Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and cook the mixture, stirring constantly. Gradually add each of the remaining ingredients: 1/2 cup cider vinegar, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 tablespoon salt, 1/4 cup butter or margarine, 1/2 teaspoon pepper, 1 teaspoon celery salt, and 1 tablespoon celery seed. Stir well after each addition.
Continue cooking and stirring until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth. This may take a few minutes.
Once the dressing has thickened and is smooth, remove the saucepan from the heat and let the dressing cool completely. Once cooled, transfer it to a refrigerator container and cap tightly. It can be kept in the refrigerator for about 6 weeks. Do not freeze.
