Ann Jones
Alright, folks, let’s talk about something that’s been a hot topic in my kitchen: Costco’s cinnamon bread. You know the one—deliciously soft, fragrant, and perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

  • Here’s what you’ll need:
  • ½ cup salted butter softened
  • 1⅓ cups sugar divided
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt if necessary

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients

  • First things first, make sure your butter is softened. There’s nothing worse than trying to beat cold butter. I usually leave mine out on the counter for about half an hour.

Step 2: Cream the Butter and Sugar

  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of sugar until it’s light and fluffy. This will set the stage for a lovely texture in your bread.

Step 3: Add the Egg and Vanilla Extract

  • Next, beat in the egg and vanilla extract. The egg will give the bread its structure, while the vanilla adds that irresistible aroma.

Step 4: Combine Dry Ingredients

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt (if you’re using unsalted butter).

Step 5: Alternate Adding Milk and Dry Ingredients

  • Gradually add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined. Overmixing can lead to a dense loaf, and we want it to be light and fluffy!

Step 6: Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Swirl

  • In a small bowl, mix 1/3 cup of sugar with the ground cinnamon. This will be used to create those delicious swirls in the bread.

Step 7: Layer the Batter and Cinnamon Sugar

  • Pour half of the batter into a greased loaf pan. Then, sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top and sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon sugar over it. Use a knife to swirl the cinnamon sugar through the batter gently.

Step 8: Bake the Bread

  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The smell wafting through your house will be heavenly!

Step 9: Cool and Enjoy

  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice it up and enjoy a piece while it’s still warm. Trust me; it’s absolute bliss.

Notes

Feel like experimenting? Try these variations:
– Add Nuts: Mix in a handful of chopped pecans or walnuts for an extra crunch.
– Raisin Lover: Stir in about 1/2 cup of raisins for a bit of chew and additional sweetness.
– Cream Cheese Swirl: Drop spoonfuls of sweetened cream cheese mixture between the layers. Swirl it along with the cinnamon-sugar mix for a creamier texture.
– Whole Wheat Option: Substitute half of the all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour for a slightly denser, healthier loaf.
– Sugar-Free: Use a sugar substitute that measures like sugar for a lower-calorie version.
