Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 avocado sliced
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 3/4 oz of ground beef or ground chicken
  • 2 tbsp of sour cream
  • 1 1/2 tbsp of cumin
  • 1 1/2 cups of vegetable oil
  • 8 flour tortillas
  • 3/4 teaspoon of chili powder
  • 3/4 cup cheese shredded
  • 2 tbsp of salsa
  • 2 tbsp of paprika

Instructions

  • In a skillet, cook the ground beef or chicken over medium heat until browned.
  • Add the cumin, chili powder, and paprika, and stir until the meat is well coated in the spices.
  • Mix in the salsa, sour cream, and shredded cheese, and cook until the cheese is melted and the filling is well combined.
  • Take a flour tortilla and spoon a generous amount of the filling onto one end.
  • Fold the sides of the tortilla inward, and then tightly roll it up, starting from the filling end.
  • Repeat this process with the remaining tortillas and filling.
  • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully place the rolled crispitos into the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  • Once fully cooked, transfer the crispitos to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  • Serve the crispitos warm with your favorite dipping sauces or toppings, such as salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.
  • Enjoy the crispy exterior, the flavorful filling, and the harmonious blend of spices in every bite.

Notes

  • To make vegetarian crispitos, you can substitute the ground beef or chicken with plant-based alternatives such as crumbled tofu or textured vegetable protein (TVP).
  • For an added kick, you can sprinkle some cayenne pepper or hot sauce into the filling mixture.
  • Ensure that the tortillas are tightly rolled to prevent any filling from seeping out during frying.
  • If you're short on time, you can prepare the filling in advance and refrigerate it until you're ready to assemble and fry the crispitos.
  • The vegetable oil should be hot enough to fry the crispitos quickly, but not so hot that it burns them. Use a kitchen thermometer to monitor the oil temperature.
