Equipment

  • Crockpot

Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 8 pounds spiral-sliced ham
  • fresh herbs such as rosemary or thyme for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • cooking spray for greasing
  • 1 cup 100% pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple juice

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Crockpot

  • Begin by spraying the inside of your crockpot with cooking spray. This will help prevent sticking and make cleanup a breeze.

Step 2: Place the Ham

  • Carefully place the spiral-sliced ham in the crockpot. If it doesn’t fit perfectly, don’t worry! Just make sure the larger portion is at the bottom.

Step 3: Make the Glaze

  • In a bowl, combine the brown sugar, maple syrup, pineapple juice, and Dijon mustard. Stir well until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth.

Step 4: Coat the Ham

  • Pour the glaze over the ham. Make sure it’s generously coated, allowing it to seep into the slices.

Step 5: Slow Cook

  • Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on low for about 6 to 8 hours. If you're in a hurry, you can set it to high for 3 to 4 hours. The objective is for the ham to reach a tender state; it should slightly pull apart when prodded with a fork.

Step 6: Glaze One More Time

  • About 30 minutes before serving, carefully remove the lid and brush the ham with more glaze. This creates an even deeper flavor and a lovely finish.

Step 7: Serve

  • Once done, transfer the ham to a cutting board. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve it warm and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  •  Choose the Right Size: Ensure your ham fits well in the crockpot. If it’s too large, consider slicing it down.
  • Save the Bone: If there's a bone left, save it! It’s perfect for flavoring soups or bean dishes.
  •  Add Fruit: Consider adding slices of apple, pear, or even whole cloves of garlic for an extra depth of flavor.
  •  Don’t Rush: Slow cooking is a process! Resist the temptation to open the lid frequently; keep the steam inside.
  • Spike the Glaze: Add some spices or chili flakes to your glaze for a unique twist.
