Equipment

  • Oven
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking sheets

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to preheat while you prepare the cookie dough.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and packed brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  • Beat in the large eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Mix until everything is well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until everything is combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips into the cookie dough until they are evenly distributed.
  • Use a rounded tablespoon to scoop portions of the cookie dough onto ungreased baking sheets, leaving some space between each cookie to allow for spreading while baking.
  • Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven and bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are golden brown. The centers may still appear soft, but they will firm up as they cool.
  • Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps them set properly and prevents them from breaking.

Notes

  • Room Temperature Ingredients: Make sure your butter, eggs, and any other dairy ingredients are at room temperature before starting the recipe for best results.
  • Don't Overmix: Be careful not to overmix the cookie dough once you add the dry ingredients to avoid a tough texture in the finished cookies.
  • Storage: Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the cookie dough for later use by scooping it into individual portions and freezing on a baking sheet before transferring to a freezer-safe bag.
  • Variations: Feel free to experiment with different types of chocolate chips or add nuts for extra crunch and flavor.
