Ann Jones
When cravings hit, nothing satisfies quite like a juicy burger. While I have plenty of memories with beef burgers, the turkey burger holds a special place in my heart.

Equipment

  • skillet

Ingredients

  • 6 fresh ears of corn on the cob
  • Additional butter sea salt, and cracked black pepper for corn
  • 1/2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1 medium white onion finely chopped
  • 24 oz. lean ground turkey 90-93%
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp. Dijon mustard
  • 6 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 6 soft hamburger buns
  • 6 fresh lettuce leaves
  • 1/4 cup creamy mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup tangy ketchup
  • 1/4 cup dill pickle relish + 1 Tbsp. pickle brine

Instructions

  • Let’s break down the preparation step by step.

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Chop the onion and gather your spices. This will speed up the cooking process. If you’re feeling fancy, you can grill the corn alongside your burgers.

Step 2: Cook the Onions

  • In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and cook until they are soft and translucent—about five minutes. The aroma fills the kitchen, setting the stage for your turkey burger.

Step 3: Mix the Turkey

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, cooked onions, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and Dijon mustard. Mix it gently but thoroughly. Make sure everything is well incorporated but don’t overwork the meat; that’ll keep your burgers tender.

Step 4: Form the Patties

  • Divide the turkey mixture into six equal portions. Form each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indent in the center of each patty with your thumb. This helps the burgers cook evenly and prevents puffing during grilling.

Step 5: Cook the Burgers

  • You can grill or pan-fry the patties. Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 6-7 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer registers 165°F. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top for the last minute of cooking to melt beautifully.

Step 6: Toast the Buns

  • While the burgers are cooking, split the hamburger buns and lightly toast them on the grill or in a pan. This adds a delightful crunch!

Step 7: Assemble the Burger

  • Spread your creamy mayonnaise, tangy ketchup, and dill pickle relish on the toasted buns. Place your turkey patty on one half, top with fresh lettuce, and close it with the other half of the bun.

Step 8: Serve and Enjoy

  • Serve your turkey burger with a side of corn on the cob. Coat the corn with butter, sea salt, and cracked black pepper for extra flavor.

Notes

Here are some handy tips for the best results:
  • Choose Lean Turkey: Opt for ground turkey that contains 90% lean meat for a balanced flavor and juiciness.
  • Don’t Overcook: Keep an eye on the cooking time to avoid dry patties.
  • Custom Sauces: Try different combinations of sauces to discover new flavors.
  • Chilling the Patties: After forming your patties, chilling them for 30 minutes can help them hold together better while cooking.
  • Bun Variations: Experiment with different types of buns, such as whole wheat or gluten-free.
