Ann Jones
There’s something about those Little Caesars Cheese Bread Sticks that awakens a sense of nostalgia. I remember the first time I tried them. It was a late-night snack during a college study session.

Equipment

  • Oven

Ingredients

For the Breadsticks:

  • 2 tablespoons softened unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 1/4 cups plain all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon fast-acting active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons coarse kosher salt
  • Nonstick cooking spray or a light drizzle of olive oil for coating

For Topping and Serving:

  • 4 tablespoons 1/2 stick melted unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or granulated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse kosher salt plus extra for sprinkling if desired
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried Italian herbs for a subtle boost of flavor

Marinara or pizza sauce for dipping (optional)

  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian herbs in the topping brings a touch of warmth and complements the Parmesan and garlic.
  • The softened butter ensures a tender texture in the breadsticks while the Italian herbs add a mild, aromatic note without overpowering the main ingredients.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Yeast

  • In a small bowl, combine lukewarm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. That means your yeast is alive and kicking!

Step 2: Mix the Dough

  • In a large bowl, add flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture along with the softened butter. Stir together until a dough forms.

Step 3: Knead the Dough

  • Lightly flour your work surface and turn the dough out. Knead it for about 5 to 7 minutes. The dough should become smooth and elastic.

Step 4: Let It Rise

  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size. This usually takes about 1 hour.

Step 5: Shape the Sticks

  • Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into strips, each about 1 inch wide.

Step 6: Prepare for Baking

  • Place the strips onto a greased baking sheet. Cover with a towel again and let them rise for about 30 minutes.

Step 7: Bake

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the breadsticks for about 12-15 minutes, or until they’re golden.

Step 8: Add Toppings

  • While still hot, brush the melted butter on top. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and herbs.

Step 9: Enjoy!

  • Serve hot alongside marinara or your favorite dipping sauce. Dive in and enjoy every cheesy bite.

Notes

  • Breadstick Shape: You can make them thinner for crunchier sticks or thicker for a doughier bite.
  • Oven Adjustments: If you have a convection oven, reduce the temperature by 25°F for an even bake.
  • Timing: Watch them closely in the last few minutes of baking. Every oven varies.
  • Experiment with Cheese: Mozzarella or a blend can be a fantastic addition. Just sprinkle some on top before baking.
  • Flavor Boost: Consider adding crushed red pepper for heat. It changes things up nicely.
