Equipment

  • Baking sheet

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of your favorite pizza dough
  • 1 cup zesty pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 8 ounces pepperoni or turkey pepperoni slices
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted to perfection
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic for strong flavor
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon Italian herb blend
  • 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley optional
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Ingredients

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Flipping on the oven is crucial to achieve a perfectly crispy exterior, so don’t miss this step!

Step 2: Roll Out the Dough

  • Dust a clean surface with a little flour. Take the pizza dough and roll it out to about 1/4-inch thickness. You want it thin but not so thin that it tears easily. This will serve as the base for your Crazy Puffs.

Step 3: Cut the Dough

  • Using a round cutter, create small circles from the rolled dough. Aim for a diameter of about 3 inches. If you don’t have a cutter, you can use a glass or a mug—just make sure the size is consistent for even cooking.

Step 4: Assemble the Puffs

  • Now it’s time for the fun part! Place a small spoonful of pizza sauce in the center of each dough circle. Top with a generous amount of mozzarella cheese and a few pepperoni slices. Remember not to overfill, or they might burst while baking.

Step 5: Fold and Seal

  • Carefully fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape. Pinch the edges together tightly to seal them. You can use a fork to crimp the edges for extra security. This is where the rich flavors stay contained. Look at you, a dough-master!

Step 6: Brush with Butter and Season

  • Melt the butter and stir in the minced garlic, salt, Italian herbs, black pepper, oregano, red pepper flakes, and smoked paprika. Brush the melted mixture over the tops of the puffs. This adds a lovely color and an incredible flavor.

Step 7: Bake

  • Arrange the puffs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Pop them in the preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until they’re golden brown and the cheese is bubbling. Keep an eye on them!

Step 8: Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes. Serve warm with extra dipping sauce on the side. Enjoy the chatter and laughter as you share these delightful snacks with your loved ones!

Notes

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh dairy and veggies will make a noticeable difference in taste. Go for high-quality mozzarella and fresh tomato sauce, if possible.
  • Don’t Skip the Resting Time: Allow the dough to rest if it’s too stretchy. This will make it easier to roll out and shape.
  • Experiment with Fillings: Feel free to experiment. Try different cheeses or even a blend of meats and veggies for unique flavors!
  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the puffs ahead of time and refrigerate them. When you’re ready, just pop them in the oven!
  • Store Properly: If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge.
