- 1 large egg
- 2 packages of refrigerated pizza dough avoid thin crust
- ½ cup baking soda
- Coarse sea salt to taste
- 24 slices of pepperoni
- 2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- For the Cheese Sauce:
- 12 ounces canned evaporated milk
- 4 ounces Pepper Jack cheese
- 8 ounces aged extra sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1½ tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons hot sauce
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace
Before diving into preparation, make sure you have a clean, organized surface in the kitchen. Gather your ingredients and tools: mixing bowls, baking sheet, and a rolling pin.
Step 6: Assemble Your Pizza
Step 7: Make the Cheese Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the evaporated milk, Pepper Jack, and cheddar cheese. Stir frequently until the cheeses melt and create a smooth sauce. Mix in the cornstarch and hot sauce, stirring until the sauce thickens.
- Use a Pizza Stone: If you have one, a pizza stone can give your crust an extra crisp. Preheat it in the oven.
- Rest the Dough: Letting the dough sit for about 10-15 minutes before rolling will make it easier to handle.
- Experiment with Flavors: Adding herbs like oregano or basil to the crust can give it a delightful twist.
- Pre-bake the Crust: For a firmer crust, you can pre-bake it for about 5 minutes before topping it.
- Watch the Time: Keep an eye on the pizza toward the end of the baking time. Overbaking can lead to a chewy, less enjoyable crust.
