Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat
  • Oven or air fryer
  • Tongs or spatula for flipping

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Panko
  • 1 can 12 ounces of Spam
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Flour
  • Cooking Oil of Choice

Instructions

  • Start by cutting the Spam into thin strips, similar to the size of French fries. You can adjust the thickness to your liking.
  • In separate bowls, set up three stations for coating the spam. The first bowl will contain flour, the second bowl will have beaten eggs, and the third bowl will be filled with panko breadcrumbs.
  • Dip each strip of Spam into the flour, ensuring it is coated evenly. Shake off any excess flour before moving on to the egg station. Dip the flour-coated spam strip into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess egg to drip off. Finally, transfer the strip to the panko bowl, covering it completely with the breadcrumbs.
  • Heat cooking oil in a pan or deep-fryer to a temperature of around 375°F (190°C). Carefully place the breaded spam strips into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until the spam fries turn golden brown and crisp, typically taking around 3-5 minutes per batch. Remove them from the oil and drain excess oil on a paper towel.
  • Once all the spam fries are cooked, serve them hot and get ready to experience the flavorful crunch that will leave you craving for more. Serve with your favorite condiments or dipping sauces for an extra layer of enjoyment.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the flour or panko mixture.
  • Experiment with different coatings by incorporating herbs like rosemary or thyme into the breadcrumbs.
  • Opt for a light-flavored cooking oil to ensure it doesn't overpower the taste of the spam.
